What is depression?
Many people go through periods of feeling stressed, low, or have feelings of hopelessness but if these feelings persist, they often end up going to the doctor’s and being diagnosed with Depression.
In very extreme conditions, the medication they are given will alleviate the symptoms and people will feel better. However, in most cases, the underlying cause of their depression is psychological - something created by bottled-up emotions and feelings and, of course, medication cannot deal with this. Inevitably, this results in the individual either taking higher and higher doses of the medication, or the negative feelings increase because the individual becomes more and more anxious about living with these symptoms.
However, some people feel anxious when there is no real reason to feel this way. This can affect people in a number of ways: emotionally, psychologically and physically and, in some people, experiencing anxiety over a long period of time can lead to panic attacks or even depression.
What is a panic attack?
A panic attack is an extreme example of anxiety. It can strike for no apparent reason and “out of the blue”. In normal circumstances, when we are anxious, adrenaline is released into our system preparing us for fight or flight. However, if there is no obvious reason for the anxiety or panic, then the adrenaline produces physical sensations such as a racing heart beat, sweatiness, lack of breath, tightness or pain in the chest, or even feelings of dizziness.
Panic attacks can strike an individual at any time and can be a very frightening experience for the person on the receiving end of it.
Treatment for Panic Attacks and Depression
Hypnoanalysis, a special type of hypnotherapy, as we use it, has been proven to be the most effective way to treat panic attacks and depression as it seeks to uncover the underlying cause of the negative feelings and emotion and so remove the symptoms permanently.
Client comments
Suffering from depression
"I came to see you, Elaine when I had tried everything else – counselling, CBT, anti-depressants and none of them had worked. During the sessions I had with you I began to realise the impact that my childhood had had on me and to my complete surprise, I even remembered things I had totally forgotten. I’m now in such a different place I can hardly recognise myself. I feel free for the first time ever and things just don’t overwhelm me like they used to do. You are a very special person and I will certainly recommend you to other people."
